About PageWelcome to Getting Rich Slowly; a web site designed to help you slow down, live better and get more out of life. In other words, how to live a richer life with less clutter, less chaos, less anger and instead have more time and a more stress-free life. Anyone can do it. You just need to learn how. I did it and so can you. Who Am I? I’m Ruth Barringham, a freelance writer, author and publisher from Brisbane, Australia. I used to be just like you, working at a job I hated, wishing I had more time to enjoy life instead of rushing around, going to work every day and spending what little free time I had catching up on other things I didn’t want to do like washing, ironing, cleaning, shopping and all the other mundane tasks that life seemed to throw at me on an almost daily basis. I knew there had to be a better way. At first I thought the solution was to earn more money. I thought that if I just had enough money I could quit my day job. But the question was how to earn more money? How to become wealthy enough to not need to work anymore? How to be rich? That’s what I wanted to know. I began researching and eventually I found the answer – or at least what I thought was the answer. I needed to have my own company because I’d read that only the company owners were the truly rich people because they sat back and did nothing while other people worked for them and made them rich. So that’s what I did. I worked extra hard to start my own publishing company. And it worked. I was able to quit my job and work from home. Finally I’d made it. Except… It didn’t seem to be the answer. Yes I’d quit my job and yes I was running a successful company but something was still not right. Then it hit me. Being rich wasn’t about how much money I was earning or whether I worked from home or not. I still had a life and mind in chaos. What I needed was to be rich in every area of my life, not just my bank balance. And you know what? This time I was right. I cleared the house of all unnecessary clutter by throwing it away, donating it or selling it. I redecorated the house throughout with plain colour and fresh (plain) carpets. I then re-budgeted my finances and stopped buying things I didn’t need. This lack of spending also led to a lack of need of earning lots of money which led to less stress and a more Zen-like mind. Spending less money also meant eating more healthily because I started buying more ingredients and cooking from scratch rather than buying processed foods, which was a natural path to weight-loss and improved health. And all this slowing down and wanting less had led to a life of having more, which to me means having ~ more time to cultivate an organic vegetable garden So if you want to be rich, make sure you get rich slowly and in every possible way, not just financially. Because, like I discovered, getting richer in other parts of my life was a natural progression to having more money anyway. Now it’s time to take a deep breath, and another, then go slowly and live the life of your dreams.
